Exceptional set of glass slides for a magic lantern, Maison de la Bonne Presse – Circa 1900. From the attic of Father Périé in Castres (Tarn), this remarkable set comprises approximately 400 glass slides measuring 8.5 × 10 cm, preserved in their 12 original wooden boxes, with about thirty to forty slides per box. The themes are: Religious subjects (predominant): lives of saints, biblical stories, catechism, Catholic missions… Ethnological subjects: peoples and civilizations of the world seen through the lens of the late 19th century; Prehistory: representations of prehistoric humans and their ways of life as imagined at the time, an iconographic document on the history of science. Overall condition: good for a set of this age. Some slides show wear or damage (chips or alterations), which is typical for objects of this nature and age. The wooden boxes are antique and constitute a heritage item in themselves. Most are in good condition! Provenance: estate of Father Périé, Castres (81). Lot sold as a whole, without separation of the boxes.
