Amazing Bronze Wax Holder, Bird And Snake, Rat De Cave, 19th Century
A beautiful 19th-century wax holder or wax cone holder in worked, turned, and cut bronze or brass.
A pair of spring-loaded, scissor-like jaws hold wax wick.
The upper handles are connected by a spring.
A bird perches on axis of a sinuous console with a serpent's head and body.
Two cartwheels rotate wax ball.
Four stirrup feet complete this curious piece, one I had never encountered before.
Height 22 cm, width 11 cm, length 13 cm.
Overall goodcondition, no flaws. Axis needs tightening, one or two parts are slightly bent, and there are signs of wear consistent with age. A rare and decorative light fixture!
