Object description :

""the Lioness Of Tunis" After Antoine-louis Barye Bronze With Medal Patina "
"The Lioness of Tunis" After Antoine-Louis Barye Bronze with a medal patina Griotte red marble base Length: 18 cm – Height: 8.5 cm This charming animal sculpture depicts a reclining lioness in an observant pose, entitled "The Lioness of Tunis," after the renowned animal sculptor Antoine-Louis Barye (1795-1875). The lioness is shown lying on a rocky mound, her head slightly raised, in a calm yet vigilant attitude. The modeling highlights the animal's supple musculature, the curve of her flanks, and the restrained tension characteristic of big cats at rest. The curled tail harmoniously balances the composition. The signature "BARYE" is visible on the base. Made of bronze with a medal patina, this sculpture displays a beautiful warm tone, emphasizing the volumes and details of the fur and anatomy. The piece rests on an elegant griotte red marble base, adding contrast and refinement. Antoine-Louis Barye remains the leading figure in 19th-century animal sculpture. His models, inspired by direct observation of animals at the Jardin des Plantes, profoundly influenced the taste of the Second Empire and beyond. Orientalist subjects, such as this lioness evoking North Africa, reflect the 19th-century fascination with exoticism and wildlife. This work, with its harmonious dimensions (18 cm long by 8.5 cm high), is an ideal decorative piece for a study, library, or collector's display case. It is in very good overall condition. The patina is well preserved. The marble is in good condition.
