A very fine dark brown patinated bronze vase of Japanese origin, dating from the Meiji period, richly decorated in relief with a delicate naturalistic motif depicting birds perched on flowering branches, probably plum or cherry blossoms, traditional symbols of poetry and renewal in Japanese art.
The baluster body of the vase is finely worked, alternating chasing and light gilt highlights, demonstrating high-quality craftsmanship. The rim is adorned with a geometric frieze characteristic of late 19th-century Japanese bronzes intended for the European export market.
The vase rests on an antique, carved and openwork wooden base, elegantly showcasing the piece.
Note: the base has an old missing piece corresponding to a decorative element (band), which does not affect the stability or the overall presentation of the vase.
Beneath the base of the vase, a molded Japanese stamp is visible, attesting to workshop production, typical of this period.
The piece displays a beautiful, even antique patina, with slight signs of age consistent with its age.
A refined decorative object, ideal for an Asian art collection, a classic or eclectic interior, or as a statement piece on a console or mantelpiece.
Period: late 19th –
early 20th century Origin: Japan
Material: patinated bronze Base: carved and openwork wood Condition: very good overall condition (base with a small, old chip noted) Height with base: 41 cm
