The "boteh" is a Zoroastrian symbol of immortality, the most credible hypothesis of its origin.
The shape is a representation of the cypress tree (Maynu spentas), believed to be associated with the light of the god Ormuzd and with Zoroaster. Upon his death, it is carried to the summit of a mountain where it transforms.
Another legend claims it is a cypress from paradise, planted by Zoroaster and Kashmar (Turchiz), which became the tallest in the world.

The colors are cream, yellow, camel, chestnut, apricot, orange, orange-red, and a marvelous midnight blue set against a blue field. The color treatment is based on plants and minerals.
The ornamentation of this exquisitely detailed piece is composed of a multitude of botehs (41 in total), surrounded by a delicate border of large stylized yellow flowers and sinuous lines, a symbol of eternity and continuity.

These carpets have shades of pink, red, ochre, numerous blues, violet, and earth tones, and the majority of them feature geometric patterns.
The most common motif consists of a large central field with one or more square medallions.
Some designs depict an animal hide stretched before tanning.
What is typical of Afshar carpets is that they are often relatively wide compared to their length.
Afshar carpets are also marketed under the name "Carpets." Sirdjan.
