Solid Silver And Ivory Seal – Napoleon III Period – Romanesque Capital Head

An elegant seal from the second half of the 19th century, French work from the Napoleon III period, made of solid silver hallmarked with a boar's head (minimum fineness 800‰) and with an antique ivory handle.
The head is in the form of a neo-Romanesque capital, resting on a circular abacus.
The capital, which flares towards the plate, is decorated with finely chased foliage.
The corners are chamfered and the backgrounds are finished with a matte finish (fine pitting).

At its base, the carved ivory handle consists of two superimposed dice with concave sides separated by a cavetto molding. Their cross-section narrows towards the die.
The whole piece displays an architectural vocabulary characteristic of the historicist taste of the Second Empire.

The die is engraved with a monogram of intertwined initials in finely executed romantic arabesque calligraphy.
