"A Kimono Cape For Evening Wear By Paul Poiret After Raoul Dufy - Paris Circa 1915-1920"
Circa 1915/1920, France. Long kimono cape for evening or opera wear by Paul Poiret, after Raoul Dufy, dating from the renowned couturier's most successful years. This ample cape features kimono sleeves in black duchess satin, with a fuchsia pink and black printed satin lining created by Raoul Dufy for Paul Poiret. The shoulder yoke extends into a flared shape at the sleeves. The ermine fur collar, originally a ball collar, has been replaced as the original ermine fur was in very poor condition. The famous label reads "Paul Poiret à Paris" accompanied by his iconic rose logo created by Paul Iribe (label in poor condition). A cotton ribbon with an illegible handwritten inscription is located on the back of the label. The black silk satin has two or three repairs (photos available upon request). There are some very minor imperfections in the printed silk, which do not compromise the garment's durability and make it a valuable collectible. Fair condition. Price reflects this. Dimensions: Equivalent to French size 40-42. Length 120 cm. Total circumference 214 cm. Sleeve length 45 cm, collar height (when folded down) 12 cm. Raoul Dufy began his collaboration with Paul Poiret by creating La Petite Usine, a fabric printing workshop, for him. He continued his collaboration with Atelier Martine, Paul Poiret's daughter, where Raoul Dufy created designs similar to the one shown here.
