Small Louis XVI Style Marquetry Parlor Cabinet – Mid-19th Century
This half-moon shaped cabinet brilliantly embodies the refinement of the Louis XVI style, combining classicism with exquisitely delicate decorative whimsy. Its purple and white breccia marble top, encircled by an openwork brass gallery, offers a striking contrast to the marquetry composed of rosewood, mahogany, and palisander. The front opens with a single door adorned with a musical trophy (lyre, violin, flutes, and sheet music) framed by delicate fillets, a tribute to the arts and harmony. This door features a chased bronze key with a functional lock and a beautifully crafted escutcheon. The frieze, enlivened with floral bronze scrolls, emphasizes the elegant curve of the cabinet, while the bronze ram's head-shaped uprights evoke classical nobility. The gently curved front feet, adorned with foliate sabots, gracefully extend this aesthetic. Inside, a discreet shelf provides optimal storage. The lower rail, adorned with a bronze urn, completes the ensemble with a solemn touch. A stately piece, ideal for enhancing a classic living room or enriching a collection of period furniture. Every detail testifies to exceptional craftsmanship and a refined taste for neoclassical ornamentation. ********Period: Mid-19th century.
