The circular bases are decorated with stylised lotus leaves. The quiver-shaped shafts are adorned with palmettes and topped with two oval faces with idealised features, surrounded by a solar halo and accompanied by owl frieze rings.
High-quality gilding and chiselling with a double matt and shiny patina.
Produced around 1795, at the beginning of the Consulate/Empire period, these objects reflect the neoclassical fashion that dominated decorative art after the Revolution, seeking to reinterpret antiquity with luxury and rigour.
They combine antique motifs, figurative idealisation, symmetry and decorative sobriety, while remaining true to the technical perfection cherished by bronze casters such as Thomire.
