Cavalry Pistol Model An XIII From The St Etienne Factory
An AN XIII pistol, an early model, incorporating parts still available from the AN IX model.
The barrel is octagonal, then round, marked 1808 and bearing a clear inspector's mark, "B."
The breech tang is marked "Mle an 9." "EF" is marked next to the touchhole.
The length is 24 cm.
The lock plate is clearly marked "Mle IMP de St Etienne," with an "S" under a crown, the mark of Soviche, 2nd class inspector, on both the exterior and interior.
All steel and brass parts, including the ramrod, are also stamped with a "P" under a crown, the mark of Pozon, 2nd inspector in St Etienne.
The stock is made of walnut with a short forend, marked "B1808" engraved in the wood, and an "M" likely engraved by the user. There are two extremely discreet splices in the wood, probably period repairs.
Total length 35.5 cm.
This model is quite rare in this condition and, above all, complete and original.
Feel free to ask any questions.
