18th Century George III Period Mahogany Satinwood Inlay Fold-over Tea Table

Wonderful Color Late 18th-Century George III Mahogany & Satinwood String Inlaid Fold-Over Tea Table

A superb late 18th-century George III mahogany fold-over tea table, of elegant D-shaped form, finely inlaid throughout with satinwood stringing and banding. The top is crafted from beautifully figured flame mahogany with delicate satinwood inlay, and hinges open to reveal an interior of rich, unfaded mahogany with exposed brass hinges, all in excellent original condition. The frieze incorporates a full-length mahogany drawer, again detailed with satinwood stringing, and lined in oak, a hallmark of quality Georgian cabinetmaking. The table stands on four refined, square tapering legs, all inlaid, with the back legs hinged to swing out and support the top when open. This piece showcases outstanding mahogany timber and crisp satinwood inlay, retaining its original color and mellow patina. Elegant yet practical, it is a wonderful example of late 18th-century design and would make a distinctive focal point in a drawing room, hall or study.
