A superb and rare Victorian coffee table of octagonal form, circa 1880, exquisitely veneered in richly figured burr yew and finely inlaid throughout.
The striking octagonal top features mirror-matched burr yew, displaying exceptional grain patterns and depth of color. A complex marquetry design forms a geometric star motif of triangles, inlaid with satinwood, boxwood, and contrasting timbers. The edge is finished with alternating yew and satinwood molding, featuring delicate satinwood stringing along the frieze.
A central circular marquetry plaque unifies the design, set above inlaid rails. The table stands on four elegant, tapering legs, each finely inlaid and supported by inlaid quarter brackets, giving the piece a sculptural, architectural presence.
