Nimcha Sabre - Maghreb, probably Algeria, 17th century. Interesting nimcha-type saber with a hilt characteristic of 17th-century Barbary examples. Horn hilt. Steel guard with three quillons and a guard branch. Slightly curved blade with three deep fullers, flat back, single edge, and pronounced false edge. European import blade, very likely Italian based on two marks on one face. Marks frequently found on 16th and 17th-century Italian blades (see Wallace Collections catalogues, European Arms and Armour, inventory numbers A495, A803, A535). Quillons partially deformed. The guard has significant play. Overall length 98.5 cm. Blade length 85 cm. Weight 844 g.
