"Art Nouveau Planter."
By Théodore Schoop, sculptor, for the Bernhard Bloch factory. Slip-glazed ceramic in shades of cream, light green, dark green, and light brown. Glaze cracks. Oval-shaped bowl decorated with a calla lily flower and leaves. A draped young woman sits on the rim of the bowl. She holds a veil made of spirals and volutes in the style of the "Serpentine Dance" of the famous dancer Loïe Fuller, a leading figure and muse of Art Nouveau. Signed by the sculptor Théodore Schoop on the back of the bowl. Marked on the base: BB / 7578. Circa 1900. Height: 21 cm. Width: 27.5 cm. Depth: 22.5 cm. Very good condition. Bernhard Bloch (1836–1909) was one of the greatest Jugendstil ceramicists in Austria-Hungary. His highly prized works made him one of the leading figures of this movement. His work was recognized at numerous exhibitions, notably at the World's Columbian Exposition in St. Louis, USA, where he won the Gold Medal in 1904.
