"Mid-19th Century Casket With Capodimonte Porcelain Plaques"
Refined ebonized wood casket with a brass balustrade at the top. The rectangular casket is adorned on the sides with four antique Capodimonte porcelain plaques depicting episodes from classical Greek mythology, including Apollo and Artemis slaying the children of Niobe, the myth of Phaeton, the Judgement of Paris, and the Rape of Ganymede. The casket can also be opened with a small bronze key, revealing a secret storage space inside. The balustrade and small space at the top were intended to serve as a flowerpot. This is a particularly elegant object, capable of adding a touch of class and antiquity to any space. Neapolitan manufacture from the Napoleon III period, around the mid-19th century.
