Large Boulle Marquetry Liquor Cabinet With Gilded Baccarat Bronze And Napoleon III Design
DESCRIPTION / Large and rare liquor cabinet, blackened and inlaid in the Boulle style with brass stringing and brass, red tortoiseshell, and mother-of-pearl inlays. Gilt bronze ornaments with ingot moldings and side handles. Opens to reveal a compartmentalized mahogany interior containing 16 glasses and 4 Baccarat crystal decanters with gilt trim. Note a small chip on the neck of one of the decanters (see photo). The glassware is uniform but varies between two designs: 11 constellation and 5 floral. The opening mechanism is not a classic compass hinge because the lid is too heavy; you can leave it open by pivoting, but I recommend either displaying it closed or with the lid removed, as shown in the photos. This atypical and very high-quality cabinet offers ample space.
