"Cbg Mignot, Hunting Scene With Lead Figures"
This toy comes from the workshops of the Blondel foundry, founded in 1825 and renamed "CBG" in 1847 for its three partners, Cuperly, Blondel, and Gerbeaux. This company steadily grew in importance and prestige throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. While the manufacture of small lead soldiers remained its core business, sets like the one shown here reveal another facet of their expertise: the creation of small scenes from everyday life. There are seven human figures and ten animal figures, plus about ten decorative elements (plants, trees, a sign, etc.). The painted figures bring the whole scene to life, as does the watercolor background.
