Late 19th Century Set Of Six Cups And Saucers
Refined set of six Kutani porcelain cups and saucers, decorated in red and gold. The cups feature a rounded rim and a ringed base, almost entirely painted with plant and geometric motifs, and two historiated scenes, including a Japanese coastal landscape and a scene depicting characters engaged in writing. A further detail that adds refinement is the floral decoration on the inside of the cups. The saucers also feature a ringed base and an elegant decoration with floral and geometric motifs, while the center depicts a scene with characters gathered under a tree. Minor defects are noted, and each piece bears a Japanese ideogram mark on the bottom. This is a highly elegant and classy set, capable of lending a touch of sophistication and oriental flair to any setting. Japanese manufacture, late 19th century.
