"Louis XVI Period Fan, Gouache On Silk "the Presentation Of The Newborn""
Louis XVI period fan. Beautifully crafted mother-of-pearl mount, finely engraved, gilded, and silvered. The silk leaf is embroidered with metallic sequins and delicately painted in gouache with a scene depicting the presentation of a newborn baby. On either side, two painted medallions of charming Cupids add balance and a touch of whimsy to the whole. The reverse is painted with flowers, and the silk has been reinforced at the folds. It measures 10,63 inches closed and 20,07 inches in diameter when open. France, circa 1780.
