"Views Of Orléans By Salmon, 19th Century."
These large views of Orléans by Jacques François Pierre Salmon were drawn in 1807 and engraved in 1815 by Benedict Piringer, born in Vienna in 1780 and died in Paris in 1826. One view is taken from the Capuchin monastery and the other from Île Arrault. These polychrome engravings, of exceptional finesse, are a rare testament to what the city of Orléans was like at the beginning of the 19th century. Jacques Pierre François Salmon (1781-1855) was a history and landscape painter; he studied under Jean Bardin and Jean Baptiste Regnault and taught drawing at the Orléans high school. They are enhanced by a charming pitch pine frame. The Musée d'Orléans holds several of his works. Early 19th century. Frame dimensions: 63 cm x 81 cm. Dimensions inside the mat: 43 cm x 61 cm.
