Curved Chest Of Drawers With A Transitional Front, Provençal Chest Of Drawers, Walnut, 18th Century
Magnificent small Transition period commode from the 18th century, in walnut. With a beautifully curved front, it has three drawers, the top one slightly smaller than the other two, adding to its overall elegance. The drawers, the front rail, and the side rails are beautifully carved with shell and acanthus leaf motifs. It has hoof feet at the front and back, surmounted by acanthus leaves. The rails are exquisitely molded and shaped. The handles and escutcheons, all in bronze, are later additions. The piece is in very good condition, with some old restorations to the four feet and the lower part of the front rail. The top naturally shows signs of age and use (see photos). It has a beautiful patina, the walnut a lovely honey color.
