Half-moon Shaped Bedside Table/nightstand/convenience Cabinet, Louis XVI Period – Early 19th Century
An elegant half-moon bedside table resting on four tapered legs, opening at the front with a functional upper drawer.
The two lower drawers are false and conceal an arched door giving access to an interior compartment designed to hold a chamber pot, entirely lined with marble (bottom and top).
The piece is made of solid wood and burr veneer, highlighted with stringing, and topped with a molded, nuanced yellow marble frieze.
The unveneered parts (the structure of the piece) show, when held up to the light, irregularities characteristic of antique tooling.
This does not detract from its overall beautiful appearance. It is adorned with original bronze mounts including a knob, drawer pulls, and feet. Antique work from the late 18th/early 19th century.
Condition: very good.
Note that the internal fixings to the drawer pulls were replaced during a previous restoration.
