"Landscape Painted By Doda Conrad, Polish Baritone "
Landscape painted by Doda Conrad (1905-1997). The landscape is signed in the lower right corner and is sold unframed. A few small chips are visible in the photographs. The son of Marya Freund, a renowned opera singer, he hesitated between painting and singing, and a response from Picasso telling him that painting had nothing more to teach him determined his path. He joined Nadia Boulanger's vocal group in 1936 alongside Hugues Cuenod, Irène Kedroff, and Marie Blanche de Polignac, performing works by Monteverdi, Schütz, Johann Sebastian Bach, Schubert, Fauré, and Stravinsky. He commissioned *Mouvement du cœur* (Movement of the Heart) to poems by Louise de Vilmorin, with music composed by Henri Sauguet, Jean Françaix, Francis Poulenc, and Darius Milhaud, and *Visions infernales* (Infernal Visions), also composed by Henri Sauguet. In 1965, no longer performing on stage, he turned to music promotion, notably creating the Royaumont Abbey Music Season.
