They met at the School of Fine Arts in Clermont-Ferrand. Michelle then entered the School of Fine Arts in Bourges, where she learned ceramic techniques from Jean Lerat. They created their first ceramic pieces together in 1956. Between 1959 and 1965, they participated in the Salons of the Society of Decorative Artists. Unlike the ceramists of Vallauris who used direct glazes, they developed superimposed matte glazes.
