A pair of giltwood mirrors from the Regency period, France, 18th century, circa 1730, decorated in the "Bérain" style with mercury mirrors and original backings. In good condition. Dimensions: H. 56cm x W. 15cm & H. 58cm x W. 16cm. An unusual type of mirror used in the 18th century, placed between two other mirrors or horizontally above the back of a sofa and below a painting for self-reflection. (Example on display at the Château du Bois-Chevalier in the Vendée region, in the main salon)
