""sphinx Gardener" Clock, Empire Period, 19th Century"
A gilt bronze clock depicting a wickerwork jardinière supported by two sphinxes, flanking the movement with an enamel dial signed "? à Paris". The two-tiered ovoid base is chased with a frieze of small flowers, water lilies, and the mask of Apollo in the center, accompanied by two griffins on either side. It rests on four small, round feet chased with beaded friezes. The mercury gilding retains its original double patina and is in very good condition, having been cleaned by our workshop. The wire-driven movement (an earlier modification) is key-operated and strikes the hours and half-hours. It has been serviced by our watchmaker.
