A precious crucifix in its original frame. France. This magnificent antique crucifix, with its face, hands, fingers, and ribs, is all sculpted with remarkable artistry that enhances the figure. Christ is presented in a superb period frame. There are a few small chips to the crown and slight expansion due to age, which in no way diminishes its value but testifies to its age and beauty. Dimensions: with frame: 58 x 48 cm, Christ: 20 x 13 cm. The figure of Christ is rendered with exceptional anatomical detail and a reverent expression – hallmarks of the master craftsmen of Dieppe. The crucifix is surmounted by a finely crafted INRI plaque, symbolizing the inscription placed above Jesus at the time of the crucifixion – Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum – “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.”
