This superb painted terracotta fire vase features a curved body and a narrow neck, decorated with stylised plant motifs rendered in a deep palette of ochres, blacks and intense blues. The decoration unfolds in continuous friezes of scrolls, flowers and leaves, evoking the decorative spirit of the 1920s and 1930s, at the crossroads of ceramic art and Oriental influences.
The composition is harmonious and well balanced, alternating rhythm and repetition with a strong sense of movement. The surface retains a soft, vibrant patina that bears witness to both the quality of the craftsmanship and the passage of time. Minor imperfections to the base, as well as slight surface flaking, do not detract from the stability or overall charm of the piece.
With its sculptural presence and expressive restraint, this vase stands as a decorative object of strong character, equally compelling displayed on its own or in dialogue with 20th-century art objects.
