Oil On Canvas Depicting Travellers Fishing Near Ponte Mammolo, Late 17th Century.

This beautiful overdoor painting, complete with a contemporary frame, was painted in oil on canvas and depicts a rural landscape with figures of wayfarers along the Aniene River, one fishing and the other waiting on a white horse. Indeed, it appears that the bridge depicted by the painter is the Ponte Mammolo just outside Rome, giving us a glimpse of how it looked in the second half of the 17th century.

The artist who produced it displays fine pictorial skills, both in the figures, which are expressed with thick and rapid yet highly detailed brushstrokes, and in the faithfully reproduced environmental investigation.

The painting is in excellent condition, but we recommend cleaning as the painted patina appears slightly darkened by dirt and yellowing from old varnish.

The original ebonized frame is finely carved with gilded elements.

The canvas measures 94cm x 33cm. Its coeval finely carved frame have a section around 7 cm.
