Pair Of Regency Style Candlesticks In Chinese Porcelain Mounted In Gilt Bronze
A pair of Chinese porcelain and biscuit candlesticks from the Kangxi period (1662-1722), with blue enamel and gilt bronze mounts from the Regency period, circa 1720, decorated with a monkey and flowers, the candle holder and drip pan in blue enamel with a floral pattern.

Their purpose was to illustrate daily life in China through its various artisans and members of the elite, and to evoke dreams through their easily conveyed exoticism. These figures then served as models for various European ceramic manufacturers: Meissen from 1710, Chantilly, Saint-Cloud, and they were even reproduced in Strasbourg faience. The craze that began at the end of the 18th century continued into the 19th century.
