"Sèvres - Bust Of Paris After Canova In Biscuit Porcelain And Marble - Circa 1830"
A biscuit porcelain bust of Pâris, after Canova's work, orignaly ordered by Josephine de Beauharnais during the Napoleonic era and displayed at the Château de Malmaison. After the Empire, it entered the collections of the Tsar of Russia and is now in the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg. The work depicts the handsome Phrygian shepherd Paris, son of the rulers of Troy. The bust is mounted on a green Swedish marble column with a gilt bronze mount. Fine production from the early 19th century, circa 1830. The quality of execution is excellent: unsigned, it is very probably a Sèvres production.
A beautiful object to complement a Neoclassical decor. The subject is unusual, and that tall base gives it a more substantial presence. It can be displayed on a chest of drawers, a mantelpiece, or a display cabinet.
In perfect condition, no damage.
