Carved Wooden And Spelter Crucifix, 19th Century, Normandy Origin
Superb crucifix in a beautiful 19th-century carved wooden frame. The frame is carved in the shape of a crown of thorns. At the base is a large sheaf of wheat with a rose in the center. In the upper section are four daisies surmounted by a cross with olive leaves. The carving is extremely fine. In the center, against an apricot velvet background, the large carved wooden cross forms a sunburst, reminiscent of a monstrance. The cross is molded and retains its corners at the bottom. Christ is made of spelter, his head inclined to the right, a typical 16th-century pose. There are minor losses to the thorns. This piece likely originates from Dieppe or is a ship's deck work. An object of very high quality. Perfectly executed with great finesse. Height: 50 cm, Width: 32 cm, Depth: 5.5 cm
