Gien earthenware fruit basket, late 19th century. This elegant Gien earthenware fruit basket dates from the late 19th to early 20th century. It is decorated with a rich, hand-painted polychrome Renaissance design featuring chimeras, scrolls, and grotesques, centered around an antique-style medallion. The basket has handles and a slightly crackled glaze, characteristic of earlier pieces. The reverse bears the Gien pottery mark.
