The Château de Maubuisson in Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône is in fact the former Maubuisson Abbey, founded in 1234 by Blanche of Castile. Today, it is a contemporary art center surrounded by a park. "It is not a snapshot, but the reproduction of a frozen and composed moment, illuminated by an impression, a sensation of color generated by multiple touches of pigments modeled by the brush of light." Institut Lumière. Filed as a patent in 1903 but unveiled to the Academy of Sciences in 1904, the Lumière Autochrome plate, invented by Louis Lumière, is the first color photography process. The secret of this invention lies in the use of dyed potato starch, which captures and filters light.
