Created during the second part of the 18th century, this reliquary in paperolles is derived from French sacred art. It contains the relics of St. Secundina, Virgin Martyr from the 3rd century who died by flagellation during the persecution under the reign of the Roman emperor Trajanus Decius.
Meticulous art and of breathtaking visual quality, the reliquaries in paperolles are designed by cutting and folding papers into baroque and religious forms. Covered with a gold paint, it gives the illusion of metal. It is a true little jewel of the religious crafts of the 18th century, reached us in good general condition.
Protected by a transparent glass and a black wooden frame, probably repainted in black during the 19th century to match the taste of the Empire style that blended golden colors with deep black.
