The popular subject is rendered with great finesse in the poses, facial expressions and detailed clothing; it belongs to an iconographic tradition widely represented in Neapolitan sculpture of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The Capodimonte workshops played a significant role in spreading this type of subject, portraying scenes of children from the people – players, musicians or dancers – admired for their expressive charm and delicate craftsmanship.
The composition is complemented by a small low rectangular vase integrated into the group.
The piece dates from the early 20th century.
