A very fine pair of Renaissance-style oak chairs from the late 19th century. The chairs rest on four fluted legs connected by a turned wooden stretcher forming an H. The backrest is very high, entirely openwork and carved. On either side of the backrest, at the base, a large rectangular block decorated with feathers supports a fluted column surmounted by a finial. Four large, molded vertical bars frame a carved plaque with a foliage motif. The whole is surmounted by a beautiful, richly carved cartouche. The seats of the chairs are in very good condition; they have been recently reupholstered and are very firm. The upholstery is petit point woven and depicts a pretty bouquet of various flowers.
