Mantel Clock With A Reclining Winged Lion Cupid, Charles X Period, In Gilt Bronze With An Enamel Dial
Artist: Non Signée
With its beautiful and vibrant mercury gilding, this lovely bronze clock, featuring a white enamel dial and a chariot wheel motif, dates from the early 19th century, during the reign of Charles X. It depicts a winged Cupid with an enigmatic lion at his feet. Above, the attributes of the monarchy are displayed: a scepter and crown, accompanied by those of love—a quiver and torch. At its base, within the heart of a laurel wreath, are crossed arrows. On either side are generous palmettes, and the clock's feet are finely chased. The handsome chariot wheel dial features Roman numerals and is encircled in a finely guilloché and gilded bronze frame. The original Parisian-style movement, with its key and pendulum, is present. This high-quality piece, in the Neoclassical style, is decorative, well-crafted, and in working order; its crystalline chime once marked the hours. A piece preserved from time, the photos will give you a glimpse of this beautiful clock, typical of this reign and Parisian workshop.
