Armand Vereecke (1912-1990), Abstract Mixed Media Work On Paper
Armand Vereecke was a Belgian artist born in Brussels in 1912. He was a painter, draftsman, sculptor, and poet. He studied drawing at the Ixelles Academy and sculpture at the Etterbeek Academy. His work evolved from a poetic figurative realism towards a geometric abstraction from which often emerges a form of poetry exalting a certain mystery and even a hint of spirituality. He died in Etterbeek (Brussels) in 1990. His works are held in the museums of Ostend and Ixelles. The work offered here, large format (97 x 68 cm), is an abstract mixed-media piece on paper mounted on wood. The work is signed and dated 1965. The refinement of the colors is enhanced by the delicate luminosity of the work. The painting is fitted with a new, custom-made wooden frame. This is a rare work in the the artist's work, by virtue of its period, format, and shimmering and subtle colors.
