Painting on a round plaque depicting the face of Madame Récamier, in a square blackened wood frame, signed Nicoll. This gouache is inspired by Jacques-Louis David's famous painting of Madame Récamier. France, first half of the 19th century.
Madame Récamier (1777-1849), an opponent of Napoleon's regime, is known for having held a salon from 1797, until the July Monarchy, where she received political, literary, and artistic celebrities. Good condition: some wear on the frame.
