René Gabriel (1890-1950), after training at the Germain Pilon school and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, presented the results of his research oriented towards industrial production at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs, then participated in the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in 1925. From 1927 onwards, he presented very simple oak furniture at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs; he studied an economical version which he presented under the name RG at the Salon des Arts Ménagers in 1934. In 1944, he was appointed by the Ministry of Reconstruction and Urban Planning to create emergency furniture, most often in beech.
