"View Of Italy 1876, Capri, Procida, Naples? Jules Ruinart De Brinant (1838-1898)"
Located "Capri" on the frame with the artist's name, but I haven't identified the precise location; perhaps the nearby island of Procida in the Bay of Naples. Jules Ruinart was born in Koblenz (Germany) and died in Rilly-la-Montagne. He was a French national. A painter of history, portraits, genre scenes, and landscapes, he studied at the Schools of Fine Arts in Antwerp and Düsseldorf. He visited several European countries, including Italy, which he frequently depicted and of which many works can be found. His works are in the museums of Reims and Vienna. (Source: p. 92 of volume 12 of the Bénézit, a 14-volume dictionary of painters.) Oil on original canvas, 35.5 x 28 cm. Condition: one area needs restoration and the varnish is soiled. Antique gilt frame with some losses, 52 x 44 cm. Shipping available within France and internationally.
