Tabriz rug, circa 1960-1970, hand-knotted kork wool from Iran.
This piece measures 228 cm wide x 330 cm long.
It is in very good condition and features a superb design.
This rug is clean; the soft, thick kork wool is admirably tightly knotted.
It reveals contrasting hues, a field, and richly detailed borders.
Shades of red, pale blue, straw yellow, and ivory highlight this intricate floral design in the grand tradition of Persian art, inspired by the miniatures of the Tabriz school, then the capital of the Persian Empire.
The fringes are clean and in good condition, adding a pleasing finish to this very high-quality rug.
Kork wool, found in Persia, is the softest of wools.
It is taken under The belly and under the neck of lambs at the first shearing.
This rug dates from the 1960s-1970s and is in very good condition, showing only slight wear.
The borders, an essential element of rugs, are exceptionally elegant in this model.
Its quality and tones are beautiful.
These rugs are sometimes treated with animal fat (lanolin), which makes them silky and shiny.
This rug has an intense color; the deep red tone is very present and dominant, enhancing the designs and other softer shades.
