"Pair Of Antique Chased Brass Candlesticks – Figurative Decoration – Persian Work, Iran, Q Period"
An important pair of baluster candlesticks in finely chased brass, adorned with rich figurative decoration arranged in superimposed registers. The surfaces are decorated with full-length figures, birds, stylized animals, floral scrolls, and cartouches of decorative Arabic script, engraved with great finesse. The treatment of the human figures, rare in Ottoman art but characteristic of Persian art, as well as the presence of unofficial decorative calligraphy, allows us to attribute these candlesticks to Persian work from the Qajar period (19th century). There is a slight variation in patina between the bases of the two candlesticks. This difference does not detract from the stylistic and technical homogeneity of the set. It can be explained by different exposures over time or by an old switch of the bases, these candlesticks having very likely belonged to a larger set (a set of four), as was common for this type of production in the 19th century. Height 40 cm. Bottom diameter 8 cm
