Superb gouache on paper measuring 27cm x 38cm plus frame 48cm x 60cm signed lower right E. BABOULENE. It represents the interior of the artist's house. Eugène BABOULENE is a great Provençal painter. Born in Toulon in 1905, he was initially a decorator, then his meeting with Antoni Clavé was decisive for him. He found his style and enjoyed an international career, notably in Japan. Painter and lithographer. Described as "the most dreamy of figurative painters", this artist is considered one of the best painters of the contemporary Provençal School. He is particularly fond of seascapes and Provençal landscapes, simple and warm atmospheres, which he paints with finesse in harmonies of pastel colors. Numerous distinctions mark his career: the Ève Prize, 1950; the Othon-Friesz Prize, 1952; the Esso Prize, 1955; the Menton Biennale Prize, 1957; and he was elected a member of the Var Academy in 1979.
