Louis Auguste MOREAU 1834 / 1917
Auguste Louis Mathurin Moreau, born February 22, 1834 in Dijon and died November 11, 1917 in Malesherbes, was a French sculptor.
Auguste Moreau was the son of the sculptor Jean-Baptiste-Louis-Joseph Moreau and the younger brother of the sculptors Hippolyte Moreau and Mathurin Moreau.
He learned sculpture from his older brother Mathurin. He debuted at the Salon of 1861 and continued to play an active role at the Salon des Artistes Français, an artistic group of which he was a member.
He was a member of the Society of Saint John. He exhibited at the 1910 Salon with Saint John and The Message, a marble statuette.
His favorite subjects—allegories, putti, Cupid—are treated with realism and grace. Auguste was the only one of his siblings not to have received an official award.
He is buried in the municipal cemetery of Les Lilas. Auguste Moreau primarily produced bronze art sculptures. Several of his works are held at the Troyes Museum of Fine Arts and the Bordeaux Museum of Fine Arts. Artprice valuation up to €8,000 for similar subjects.
