Biography:
Auguste MOREAU 1834 / 1917
Auguste Louis Mathurin Moreau, born February 22, 1834 in Dijon and died November 11, 1917 in Malesherbes, was a French sculptor.
Auguste Moreau was the son of sculptor Jean-Baptiste-Louis-Joseph Moreau and the younger brother of sculptors Hippolyte Moreau and Mathurin Moreau.
He began sculpting with his older brother Mathurin.
He made his debut at the 1861 Salon and continued to take an active part in the Salon des Artistes Français, an artistic group of which he was a member. He appeared at the 1910 Salon with Saint Jean and Le Message, a marble statuette.
His favorite subjects, allegories, putti, cupid, are treated with realism and grace.
Auguste is the only one of his siblings not to have received an official award. He is buried in the communal cemetery of Les Lilas.
Auguste Moreau produced mainly art bronzes. Several of his works are preserved at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Troyes and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux.
