The Fratelli Toso glassworks was founded in Murano in 1854 by six brothers: Angelo (1823-1892), Carlo (1831-1881), Ferdinando (1830-1902), Gregorio (1835-1897), and Liberato Toso (1837-1890). Initially focused on classic designs inspired by Venetian tradition, the company, under the leadership of the founders' heirs, shifted during the 20th century towards more modern pieces, collaborating with international designers. Fratelli Toso regularly participated in the Venice Biennale and several World's Fairs, notably those in Brussels in 1910, 1935, and 1958, receiving numerous awards. In the 1980s, following a disagreement between two of the heirs, the company was split into two parts: Antica Vetreria Fratelli Toso and Fratelli Toso 1854 International, which quickly went bankrupt. Today, the Galleria Fratelli Toso houses an important collection of historical pieces spanning over a century of creation.
