"Court Waistcoat Front In Gold And Silver Cloth, Embroidered With Bullion And Tinsel, France, C. 1750"
Circa 1740-1750, France. A precious Louis XV period court waistcoat front in figured and embroidered gold cloth. It features a fitted, high neckline with full tails and two genuine flap pockets with crenellated edges. The background is an exceptional gold and silver lamé, brocaded with scrolling roses and embroidered with sequins, tinsel, and silver bullion. There are twelve buttons on the front and three on each pocket (two buttons are missing). The lining is missing, made of cream silk twill, revealing the interior seams in ecru cotton and linen (stains on the lining). Note two discreet stains, the gold lamé is slightly scuffed in areas of friction, and a few sequins are missing. The garment is stable and without major flaws. Good structural condition. Dimensions: Shoulders 43 cm, Chest 95 cm, Length 83 cm, Width of each panel 28 cm on average.
