Martine Rouart is a contemporary painter and sculptor, born in 1934, daughter of Paul Rouart and Agate Valéry. A painter and sculptor, she trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and is the author of a memoir, "La cuisinière de Mallarmé.
Granddaughter of Paul Valéry, niece of Paul Gobillard, and great-niece of Berthe Morisot, she spent her childhood with her grandfather in his apartment on rue de Villejust, its walls covered with paintings by Manet, Degas, and Berthe Morisot, and witnessed the comings and goings of Gide, Renoir, Poulenc, and others.
